Robert Magnus (Bob) is an accomplished senior executive and thought leader with over thirty years in the veterinary health care and business consulting industries. He is the founder and past CEO of Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital, a full-service nationally renowned equine referral hospital and ambulatory practice established in 1992. Starting this business as a solo practitioner, he guided the growth of this practice to include over fourteen veterinarians and twenty-five support staff. In 2005 he founded Equine Business Management Strategies LLC, an executive business education program for the equine veterinary industry.  Robert founded the business consulting firm, Oculus Insights with two colleagues: Dr. Mike Pownall, DVM, MBA from Canada and Dr. Joop Loomans, DVM, PhD, MBA from Holland.  Together this team has expanded consulting services and business education offerings on a global level to the veterinary profession beyond North America including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and China.  The Oculus scope of services has grown to include full operational management services, virtual CEO services, special business project consulting, HR management services, executive coaching, M&A negotiations, meeting facilitation, and animal health industry B2B collaboration. 


The driving forces are to utilize all insights, evidence-based business concepts, and our experiences to implement positive outcomes for our clients.  Bob enjoys sharing his passion for learning and enthusiasm for business with his peers. He has presented multiple times on a national and international level on topics such as:   Benchmark & Performance Metrics, Marketing in Practice, Negotiation Training, Value Drivers, Growth Strategies, The Business News Hours, Pricing Strategies, Business Case Reports, Wellness Programs, M&A Strategies, Proactive Management Solutions and much more...  He has published on the use of Financial Statements in Practice, Management by Fire, Prescription Management and other pressing issues in the marketplace.  


Currently Bob serves on several boards including as Chairman of the Board and other roles in the veterinary marketplace for a select group of practices and other business.

Sheila has spent over 27 years working in a multitude of areas in clinical veterinary practice.  Starting as a veterinary assistant in a mixed animal practice to becoming a certified veterinary technician and later the key Chief Operating Office for a very large equine specialty hospital and ambulatory service, you could say that she has seen it all.  

In 2018 we drafted Sheila into Team Oculus and she provides a unique operational perspective to her clients in a new found role as the boots on the ground player driving the implementation of projects and helping to streamline business operations.  In essence,  she is the eyes and ears of Oculus equipped with twenty-seven years of experience and intuition. If Sheila has a Super Power, it is common sense, and the ability to see through the scatter and find the straightest line to a clinic’s goals.  Her greatest reward in practice is earning a client’s trust. Keeping that trust is the highest motivation and responsibility in business…and in life.   Inventory management, support staff training/scheduling, and a focus on daily operational efficiencies and workflow are her forte'.


Sheila grew up surrounded by cats, dogs, and cattle waking early to ride her pony around her hundred-acre-family farm by the age of 5.  Married to an exceptional mixed animal practitioner, she is always around the business and is a huge asset to the Oculus Team. You could say her work ethic and passion for the health and well-being of animals is a product of nature and nurture.
